Dr. Xue’s Path to Mathematics
Dr. Chuan Xue attended Peking University, where she earned her BS in Computational Mathematics. Her time at PKU was transformative, providing invaluable learning experiences from both teachers and peers. She discovered her passion for applying mathematics to biological problems during graduate school at the University of Minnesota. She continued this journey as a postdoc, and later as an assistant and associate professor, at the Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota. She spent over 10 years at the Mathematical Biosciences Institute at OSU, the first NSF-funded center for math biology research in the US. She was honored with the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) by the White House. Her former students and postdocs have worked at leading organizations such as Pfizer, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, or as professors at institutions such as Pomona College, Purdue University, UC Riverside, and Renmin University in China. Recently, inspired by her children’s education and her early experience in business management as a middle schooler, Dr. Xue founded our school and began mentoring K-12 students in math and research.
Dr. Xue’s Teaching Method
Dr. Xue enjoys working on math problems with her students every day. She approaches teaching with a research mindset, viewing every student as an opportunity for exploration and every math problem as an opportunity for exploration. Her lectures are highly interactive and feature extensive Q&A sessions. She motivates and guides students to develop their own ideas through problem-solving, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Her goal is to provide enjoyable, high-quality, and efficient lessons to maximize students’ learning.
Dr. Xue doesn’t merely follow the explanations in the standard textbooks; she enhances the material in numerous ways and supplements it with her own resources when necessary. She integrates advanced mathematics and real-world applications whenever possible to broaden students’ understanding. These enhancements and connections are grounded in her deep expertise in the subject.
Dr. Xue welcomes all students who are genuinely interested in mathematics or research problems, regardless of their IQ. Notably, she works with exceptionally bright students, including 4th graders studying Geometry and 7th graders exploring Calculus. These students are all highly self-driven and dedicated.
Dr. Xue encourages parents to audit her lessons whenever possible. She is committed to discovering the best approaches to support student learning and sharing her findings with parents to ensure consistent educational methods at home and at our school. She welcomes constructive feedback from both students and parents regarding our educational services.
